The New Start

The Air Force Academy at Jinhae
(May.1951 ∼ Nov.1958)

Afterwards, when the Korean War was still going on, in June 1951, the Academy was moved to Jinhae harbor and stayed there for seven years until it moved to Seoul Campus in December 1958. During its stay, it tried to improve the education and training, and to consolidate the educational environment with a new hope in mind. Two years after it settled in Jinhae, July 1953, the war stopped with the signing and sealing of Korean War Truce Treaty. With the truce treaty, the Korean Air Force has switched its direction to strengthen the Korean armed forces.

With this goal in mind, the Air Force tried to have jet fighter dominating, and from 1955 it started to hold F-86 fighters. During its stay at Jinhae campus, the three Air Force commanders (fourth: major general Kim Jungryul, fifth: brigadier general Kim, Changgyu, sixth: colonel Shin, Sangchol) took office as Superintendents. These superintendents put their utmost efforts to make sure that the direction of education contributed to the development of Korea's Air Force in their tenure of office. During its stay at Jinhae Campus, there was a very important change in educa

tional system. With the truce of the Korean War, the course was changed to four year round general course.

It introduced the system of conferring Bachelor's degrees to the graduates. To administrate this system, with conciliation with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of National Defense announced "Military academy establishment law" that passed the National Assembly on September 29, in 1955, on the same year. In its seventh year, May 10, 1956, graduation and commission ceremony of fourth-term cadets, 102 cadets received Bachelor of Science for the first time. Also, after it has settled in Jinhae, for it felt great need to reveal the ideology and spirit of education to the whole world, the Academy song was made with

the lyrics made by general Choi, Yongduk, superintendent at that time. "Ten military academy mottos" which are still the everyday life rules of the cadets to date. "Military valor" which was handwritten by former President Lee Sung Man on 3.1, 1954, has become the academy moral that is the guiding post of education.
